Virada Cultural de SP will have a Living Heritage show; see who

A Cultural Turn of São Paulo 2024 will feature the presentation of an artist considered Living Heritage from the state of Pernambuco: Lia of Itamaracá .

The title, granted by the Pernambuco government in 2005, is given to value and recognize masters of renowned knowledge and cultural, traditional and popular groups.

Lia de Itamaracá stands out as one of the main names in the musical genre ciranda with songs such as: “Chamego de Lia”, “Quem me giving” and “Suíte dos Pescadores”.

This year, just after turning 80, she was honored at the carnivals of Recife (PE) and Natal (RN), in addition to being the theme of two samba schools: Nenê de Vila Matilde, from São Paulo, and Império da Tijuca , from Rio de Janeiro.

She competes for the 2024 Brazilian Music Award in the Regional Music Interpreter and Regional Release categories, with the album “Dorme Pretinho”, produced by Pupillo.

In addition, Lia has accumulated several other titles and awards. In 2023, for example, she was one of 20 Brazilians to enter the Power List 100, which chooses the most influential black personalities in the Portuguese language.

In 2019, she received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Federal University of Pernambuco for services provided to Brazilian culture.

Outside of music, the artist has acted in films and series and her career has been the subject of books and exhibitions.

For the singer, these achievements are a way of spreading her work and opening spaces for other artists.
