the city hall of Sao Paulo announced on Friday (20) the schedule of Virada Cultural 2022, which will take place on May 28 and 29 and will feature free concerts in eight regions of the city.
The presentations will take place in Butantã (West Zone), Freguesia do Ó (North Zone), Parada Inglesa (North Zone), Campo Limpo (South Zone), M’Boi Mirim (South Zone), São Miguel Paulista (East Zone), Itaquera (East Zone) and Vale do Anhangabaú (Center).
The opening of the event will take place at 5 pm next Saturday (28) on the stage of Freguesia do Ó, with a presentation by the maestro João Carlos Martins with the battery of Samba school Go Go.
The program features shows by Ludmilla, Luísa Sonza, Kevinho, Glória Groove, Karol Conká, Pitty, Vitão, Pocah, BK, Rael, Black Alien, Rincon Sapiência, Diogo Nogueira, Barões da Pisadinha, Djonga and other artists. In all, there will be 300 performances of music, performing arts and dance.
Virada Cultural is considered the biggest event in the capital of São Paulo. This year, 2 million people are expected to attend the presentations. According to the city hall, the objective is to “strengthen the periphery and public facilities” of the city. The 2022 edition will have “belonging” as its theme.
“It’s a special year, it’s the year of the comeback. It’s a year of gratitude, after so many losses. What we have been saying is that Culture will make people smile again”, says the Secretary of Culture of São Paulo, Aline Torres.
The city hall also has an institutional partnership with the Social Service of Commerce (sesc ) in São Paulo, extending the event’s program to 15 units of the organization, with 90 attractions.
Danilo Santos de Miranda, director of Sesc São Paulo, stated that the organization “develops an intense program in the units of the capital to collaborate with this activity that promotes a resumption of the city as a stage and reintegrates culture as one of the driving forces of the economy and to the full exercise of citizenship.
Sesc units will have shows by Zizi Possi, Sandra Sá, Lenine, Mahmundi, João Bosco and other artists. There will also be a special program for children. Interested parties need to pick up tickets in advance, which are free, on the Sesc website from 12:00 on the 28th or at the box office from 16:00 on the same day.
