Virgin Galactic Announces First Manned Space Flight From America Space Center

Virgin Galactic announced the successful completion of its third space flight, the first manned flight into space from the Americas launch site in New Mexico.

The VSS Unity spacecraft with a crew of two was launched from the VMS Eve carrier aircraft, accelerated to Mach 3 and reached an altitude of 89 km, after which it glided to the cosmodrome’s runway.

Note that it is customary to call space the space beyond the boundary of the atmosphere. This boundary is blurred, as the atmosphere thinns out gradually with distance from the earth’s surface. The International Aeronautical Federation set an altitude of 100 km as a working boundary between the atmosphere and space, based on the fact that at this altitude, in order to create lift, the aircraft must move with the first space velocity. NASA considers the boundary of space to be 122 km – it was at this altitude that the shuttles switched to aerodynamic means of maneuvering.

A number of test tasks were performed during the flight, the results of which will be used for the two final verification reports required under a valid FAA commercial reusable spacecraft operator license.
