When did your love of acting start?
“I grew up on bread and theater, thanks to my mother who took me to Carignano in Turin on Sundays when I was a child.
A magical place of which I remember the red velvet, the wooden tables and the golden boxes, where I immersed myself to get lost and, in the end, find myself. Indelible in my memory is having witnessed Death of a traveling salesman with Eros Pagni in the role of Willy Loman. From his eyes I could feel the harmony with the character and then I understood that I would dedicate myself to this art, with extreme devotion and respect ».
What is your training?
«I attended courses, workshops and the Academy and I still deepen the technique through workshops and private lessons. It is an eternal discovery, a profession in which you never really stop studying. I have been lucky enough to work with numerous professionals nationally and internationally, coming into contact with different styles. In my opinion, it is important to have heterogeneous experiences, as well as to absorb and release new energies. Confrontation is always an opportunity for growth ».
How did the adventure of Teatro al Donne start?
“We are talking about a reality that, founded in Turin in 2017, operates throughout Italy with the aim of giving a voice to the half of the world that is still little listened to. We want to enhance the woman, present her in her many facets, without falling into banal stereotypes, as too often happens. However, we are not a female elite, our team is heterogeneous and has a common ideal: equality. Songs, commercials and TV shows, and recurring statements can convey a misconception that abuse is normal. Yet the concept of “inferior” cannot exist, but we must communicate the importance of having equal opportunities ».
Which historical figures are you most inspired by?
“I think of Emmeline Pankhurst, founder of Women’s Social and Political Union, or to US activist Rosa Parks, a US activist. There are many people of reference and models from which to take an example in order to pass on the teachings to future generations. One thing must not be forgotten: what we have now is the tiring result of long struggles that took place in the past ».
How it was born Emancip(h)ate?
«It is a show, in my opinion, necessary. Observe constant development by following updates and news stories. The language used is satire, while the setting is a circus tent, in which six clowns play various roles, depending on the subject. The idea is to highlight how some dynamics are coherent within an exasperated and grotesque context. An irony that leaves a bitterness in the mouth that is difficult to remove. “Hate”, the English term for hatred that is glimpsed in the title, represents a cry of anger and protest against injustice. Only by canceling them could we define ourselves as truly emancipated ».
What characterizes you most?
«Honesty, on which every relationship should be based in order to build solid foundations. Recognizing one’s abilities, and limitations, allows you to reach an inner state of peace and joy beyond and, at the same time, a strong identity capable of facing future challenges. Cultivating a deep and invincible personality is the solution to not being influenced by transient waves. My interest in gender issues has deep roots, it has been in me ever since I started wondering why, on my birthday, mimosas were given to women… ».
