Visa survey: 25% of Latinos want to pay with cryptocurrencies

According to Visa, about a quarter of credit card users in Latin America would like to pay with cryptocurrencies if they could.

A recent Visa poll published in the Brazilian media found that 25% of all credit card users in Latin America would like to experiment with payments in cryptocurrencies if they were given the opportunity to do so by payment systems.

Visa’s research focused on assessing consumer trends during the COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions. Survey data showed that 78% of consumers plan to use new payment technologies in the future, including cryptocurrencies.

The majority of respondents – 58% – would like to make payments via social networks. About 42% of respondents also expect biometric payments to be deployed – transactions authenticated by fingerprints, retina or facial recognition.

Cryptocurrencies ranked third in popularity: 25% of users want to use them for payments. Digital assets turned out to be more popular with respondents than other technologies, for example, the Internet of Things and augmented reality – they were mentioned by 22% and 10%, respectively.

Latin America has already become one of the world leaders in the adoption of cryptocurrencies, with Venezuela and Colombia at the top of the ranking. Many startups and technological solutions have emerged in the region to use cryptocurrencies to facilitate remittances, loans and other transactions.

Recall that in January the CEO of Visa spoke about the company’s plans to expand the possibilities of using cryptocurrencies in the payment network, and in February it became known that Visa is developing a set of APIs for banks and financial organizations.
