Al Kelly, CEO of payment company Visa, said that the firm is actively interested in the cryptocurrency industry and is working on at least five initiatives in this area.
During a conference on Visa’s financial results on April 27, Kelly emphasized that the company is in a “highly advantageous” position to launch cryptocurrency products. Visa is now working in several directions: buying and selling cryptocurrencies, APIs associated with digital assets, settlements using stablecoins, and launching government cryptocurrencies.
“Thus, we are focused on five areas in this area. And I would say that we are very interested in the cryptocurrency industry, because we have an excellent position, “- said the CEO of Visa.
Kelly also said that the company is in talks with central banks about the launch of national cryptocurrencies. Visa can play an important role in this process.
“We are talking about the importance of partnership between the state and private companies. The importance of adopting government cryptocurrencies, because in order for such digital currencies to have value, they must be reliable in the eyes of consumers, and this is an area in which we have vast experience. And, of course, such assets should have useful uses, ”said Kelly.
Visa’s CEO talked last month that the cryptocurrency industry could grow dramatically in the coming years, with cryptocurrencies themselves becoming “hugely popular” within five years.
