The coronavirus pandemic in Europe is once again the cause of “significant concern”, and its consequences for the economies are difficult to predict, said the governor of the central bank of Italy.
“Italy’s economic recovery is progressing at a better pace than we expected just a few months ago. However, uncertainty remains high, mainly reflecting a health situation that has once again become a source of concern,” said Ignazio Visco.
He added, however, that short-term indicators continued to be favorable, in general.
The central banker also warned that financial institutions are more exposed to security risks in cyberspace – with cyber attacks on European banks increasing by 54% in 2021 – and called for more attention to be paid to their supervision and management.
