Vitalik Buterin criticized the digital certificates of Worldid

The co -founder of Ethereum believes that projects related to identity identification deprive users of anonymity.

Vitalik Buterin wrote in detail about this in his publication on the social network. There, he discussed the risks and advantages of projects that offer digital identity certificates based on evidence with zero disclosure (ZK). In his opinion, organizations such as World (previously Worldcoin) may deprive many Internet users, especially in crypto space.

When using one identifier for a person, even with a ZK bout, we risk approaching the world in which all your activities should be de facto under a single public identifier. In the world of growing risks (for example, drones), depriving people of the opportunity to defend themselves with the help of pseudonym has significant drawbacks, ”buterin wrote in his post.

World is a digital identification project, developed and promoted by Tools for Humanity, co -founders of which are Sam Altman and General Director Alex Blania. Users who are scanning the eyeball to confirm that they are people, receive a World ID certificate and cryptobone in the form of WLD tokens.

Having listed the shortcomings of digital identifiers, Butaterin also recognized their advantages, for example, the opportunity to distinguish people from agents with artificial intelligence.
