Ethereum co -founder Vitalik Buterin in an interview with an Epicenter podcast spoke about the change in the Ethereum Foundation (EF) strategy, the future L2 -solutions and unexpected results of his donations in meme -coins.
New Strategy Ethereum Foundation
According to Butaterin, EF is changing his approach. If earlier the organization sought to represent and coordinate the entire ecosystem, now it will focus on tasks that only Ethereum Foundation can perform.
Key directions:
- development of the protocol of the first level (L1);
- creation of applications with an emphasis on decentralization, privacy and lack of backdors;
- Active participation in the development of standards and tools for the ecosystem, and not just the provision of “social pressure”.
Buterin said that Ethereum Foundation intends to participate in the development of applied solutions. According to him, this is a more constructive approach to achieving goals than criticism of existing products.
The future of L2-solutions and the price of Ethereum
Buterin admitted that the growth rate of ETH in recent years has been inferior to Bitcoin and Solana. At the same time, he emphasized that it is not easy to determine the causes of such dynamics. In his opinion, the level of influence of the L1 network is of key value-without it, Ethereum risks losing relevance.
He supported the idea of increasing the minimum commission for transferring data for L2 networks, but opposed the interest of the taxes, as they are easy to get around.
The co-founder of Ethereum believes that the L2 networks took upon themselves the “destructive soul” the game in high-frequency trading and the race behind speed. This allows the “first floor” of Ethereum to focus on decentralization, safety and censorship resistance. Buterin added that the main value of the second -level solutions is shifted towards independent sequencing, which they refuse.
How memeans financed biotechnologies
Buterin shared the story of a major donation in meme-coin. Having received a significant number of Shiba Inu tokens, he was afraid of their soon depreciation and hastened to distribute assets between several charity organizations.
To his surprise, the price of a “funny coin” did not fall, but recovered. As a result, the funds were able to help out hundreds of millions of dollars. These funds were directed to the development of open source biotechnologies, including the creation of systems for protection against pandemia, such as improved testing and filtration of air.
Quantum threat
Vitalik Buterin called quantum computers a real threat to cryptographic systems. According to him, hacking sustainable encryption can become possible already from 2030 to 2035.
At the same time, the expert expressed optimism about the ability of Ethereum to adapt. According to him, the ecosystem is already actively working on quantum-resistant technologies, for example, on the basis of ZK evacence.
In June, Butaterin presented a system of digital “pluralistic” identification, aimed at increasing privacy protection.
