Vitalik Buterin: I consider Craig Wright to be something like Donald Trump

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin lashed out at Australian computer theorist Craig Wright, calling him a fraud because he calls himself the anonymous Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto.

Speaking on Lex Friedman’s podcast, Buterin said Wright builds an audience by discussing what people outrage the most. From this point of view, he compared him to former US President Donald Trump.

I consider Craig Wright to be something like Donald Trump, he is not very intellectual. I think he has a large audience because he says things that make people very angry. Like during the bloc war, ”Buterin said.

According to the founder of Ethereum, Wright initially contributed to the bitcoin block debate, and the Bitcoin Cash community rallied around him.

However, his credibility as Nakamoto was subsequently shaken, as he expressed technically incorrect things. For example, he was unable to prove that Bitcoin’s elliptical curve is convenient for cryptographic pairs.

The hostile relationship between Wright and Buterin developed in 2018 at the Deconomy conference, where both representatives of the cryptoindustry took part in the discussion. It was then that disagreements emerged between the notorious supporters of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash.

Vitalik Buterin called his opponent a fraud due to the lack of compelling arguments regarding a small block.

In 2021, Wright began legal proceedings to defend his affiliation with the Satoshi Nakamoto name. Earlier this year, a London court reviewed Wright’s claim and allowed him to file a copyright infringement lawsuit against the publisher bitcoin.org, which bears the pseudonym Cøbra.

The site hosts a whitepaper about Bitcoin, and Wright argues that third parties should not publish it as he is the author.

Wright recently filed a lawsuit against 16 bitcoin developers seeking 111,000 bitcoins from two addresses to which he claims private keys have been lost.

The lawsuits concerned developers from four networks – Bitcoin Satoshi Vision (BSV), Bitcoin Core (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin Cash ABC (ABC). Wright claims to have lost the keys after the hack.
