Vitalik Buterin: Privacy is normal

Journalist Colin Wu, who discovered Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin's transactions through the Railgun mixer, remindedthat the tool is also used by North Korean hackers Lazarus Group.

The service became one of the alternatives for them after the introduction of sanctions against Tornado Cash.

Wu also referred to the FBI's January 2023 statement that more than $60 million worth of assets obtained as a result of the Harmony hack passed through the mixer.

Vitalik Buterin himself commented on the journalist’s tweet, saying that “confidentiality is normal.”

“Railgun uses a privacy pool protocol, which makes it much more difficult for attackers to join a pool without compromising user privacy,” he wrote.

Previously, community members in X explained the developer’s interest in mixers with “great attention to his person.”

Over the past six months, Buterin has interacted with the Railgun protocol several times. At first he sent small volumes there, but over time he increased the amount. The last transaction on April 15th was for 100 ETH (~$325,000).
