Vitalik Buterin said that there are currently 5,901 nodes on the Ethereum network, but most use the resources of centralized cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services. Accordingly, a centralized point of failure is created for the Ethereum blockchain. To solve the problem, Buterin proposes to make the process of launching an Ethereum node cheaper and easier.
“Today, you need hundreds of gigabytes of storage to run a node. But if network clients were stateless, then you could run a node on almost zero resources. It is very important. In the future, we plan to make clients such that you can run an Ethereum node literally on your phone,” the developer promised.
However, according to Buterin, this is very difficult from a technological point of view, so it will take 10 or even 20 years to solve the problem. The co-founder noted that the most important thing for Ethereum in the near future is to increase the scalability of the network.
Recently, the Ethereum community has warned that Lido Finance is dominating the ETH staking market, which in turn is also negatively impacting the decentralization of the network.
