The team of the VKontakte social network told about an interesting achievement. A distributed content delivery network CDN (Content Delivery Network) was built for the social network.

The new technology has also been introduced into the video service of the Odnoklassniki social network. She works in all regions of Russia and other countries.
As the press service notes, the VKontakte CDN network has become one of the largest in Russia and includes more than 50 nodes. Now 97 million social network users around the world will be able to receive content at high speed: videos and broadcasts should download and start up to 1.5 times faster on average, regardless of distance.
Also, on average, the video quality available to the user in the conditions of his network has increased by an average of 20%, and the number of buffering has decreased. In the south of Russia, the download speed has increased by 10-20%, in Siberia – by 30-50%, and in the Far East – by 100%.

Network nodes are located in the centers of large regions of Russia: in Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk and Khabarovsk. They are also installed in cities where acceleration is especially necessary: for example, in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Norilsk. The distributed content delivery network also covers other countries: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Belarus. For users from Europe, VKontakte has its own point of presence in Amsterdam, not so long ago the coverage area covered Thailand.
Earlier, VKontakte accelerated the delivery of content by introducing a new network data transfer protocol QUIC.
