“VKontakte” against spontaneous “flea markets”: an analogue of “Avito” became available in thematic communities

The VKontakte team announced the expansion of the functionality of the Ads service in the social network – such a section has become available in thematic communities that unite users by specific interests, hobbies or places.

The developers hope that the service will help replace spontaneous “flea markets”: users will not have to create discussions, photo albums or conversations in order to sell or buy something – all such content will be collected in one block on the community page. “Ads” started working on the social network in December 2020. In fact, this is an analogue of Avito and many other well-known services to users. It combines the base of private ads “VKontakte” and “Yula”. Since then, the service has already been configured by more than 50 thousand communities, the monthly audience of “Announcements” in less than six months exceeded 10 million active users. Subscribers to thematic communities will see a new section in their news feed. “Ads” are presented by categories, among them – “Spare parts and auto goods”, “Animals” or “Real estate”.
