The largest Russian social network announced that it is beginning to prepare for the increased workload in connection with the New Year holidays. At the moment, the developers are testing improved message delivery algorithms, since on New Year’s Eve there is always a peak load of services, especially the messenger.
The company faces record workloads every year. For example, last New Year’s Eve, the maximum load on VKontakte’s servers increased 15 times. The social network assumes that this time the load will increase 20 times. The site team continues to improve technical capabilities and, in particular, message delivery algorithms, so that users can congratulate family, friends and relatives on the holidays.
Currently, VKontakte conducts stress tests and adapts new equipment. According to the results already obtained, the social network can withstand loads of several tens of millions of messages sent and delivered per second. The company warns that some users may experience delays in the messenger, although testing is carried out at night.
