VKontakte has accelerated 2 times and began to work more stable with a bad network thanks to the QUIC protocol

Today, September 20, representatives of VKontakte officially announced that the social network was the first in the world to be able to introduce the latest data transmission technology based on the QUIC Internet protocol. Thanks to this, the delivery of content to the end user, both in the web version and in the mobile application, has accelerated exactly two times – this was stated by the technical director of VKontakte, Alexander Tobol. Accordingly, now users will be able to receive various content on the vastness of the social network without loss of quality and other unpleasant moments, even in the case of a weak Internet connection or poor performance of the cellular network.

Employees of “VKontakte” said that the new Internet protocol has already been tested in practice, so a twofold acceleration of work is a statistic, not an assumption. For example, the delivery time of content to the end user decreased by 55%, and people with unstable Internet access began to consume 10% more content. Moreover, the technology has been tested not only in Russia, but also in Germany, Brazil, Moldova and other regions. Thanks to this, users of the social network can quickly share photos (even heavy ones), text messages, music, or simply update the news feed.

In addition, the new Internet protocol will provide users of the social network with an increased level of security – unlike the widely used TCP protocol, QUIC, in addition to a reduced data transmission delay, transmits information exclusively in encrypted form. And the developers of VKontakte decided to help others also switch to QUIC – the company’s developments regarding the new protocol are open and freely available to everyone.
