Today, December 12, as part of the VK NFT Launch presentation, the social network VKontakte presented a global update focused on the introduction of Web3 elements. Users will be able to set any NFT art as a unique hexagonal avatar or publish it as part of their own collection right in their profile – a special public showcase has been implemented for the latter. VKontakte is also preparing to launch native support for crypto wallets, so all operations with non-fungible tokens can be carried out without even leaving the social network.
The VK NFT service has been developed to manage a Web3 page inside VKontakte. In full mode for everyone, it will work in the coming days. The mini-application will help you set up crypto wallets, upload NFTs to the platform, and offer a seven-block training course that will provide you with basic knowledge about the NFT industry and trading on the crypto exchange. Active participants will receive themed emoji statuses for completing lessons and tasks.

- for each token on the user’s showcase, detailed data is available, such as ID, name, collection, owner and address of the contract;
- NFT showcases will be unlimited – users are free to lay out as many tokens as they want to be distinguished by the largest collections;
- VKontakte will support minting tokens from digital images, videos, gifs, music tracks or other content;
- in the future, NFT functions will be integrated into vmoji (virtual avatars of VKontakte), the gaming platform, gifts and other products of the company.
In January 2023, VKontakte will announce a branded NFT collection (tokens from well-known digital artists Zhenya Zubkov, Misha Liberty and Ruslan Vyaltsev are promised). Its main character was Spotty, a recognizable but unofficial mascot of the social network. Also in the plans is a full-fledged NFT marketplace. On the site, they will be allowed to post various collections, buy and resell tokens. It will be intended for both independent authors and communities.
NFT capabilities will appear in apps for Android and iOS within a few days.
