VKontakte launches VK Protect – the latest program for protecting user data

Today, December 22, the VKontakte developers officially announced the launch of their newest user data protection system called VK Protect. This program, according to company representatives, combines all the technical solutions implemented in the VK ecosystem to provide users with a convenient opportunity to control the privacy and security of personal information. For example, the scope of application of two-factor authentication has significantly expanded – thanks to VK ID, this protection technology will be available in all services of the VK ecosystem, where a single account is supported, as well as on all partner sites and in their applications.

“In your VK ID account, you can manage projects connected to your account, end VK ID sessions – or change your password if you notice suspicious activity,” said Rustem Gazizov, director of information security at VKontakte.

It is worth noting that VKontakte representatives are especially concerned about the safety of community administrators on the social network – now all owners of groups with more than 10 thousand subscribers will need to activate two-factor authentication by February next year, since this measure has become mandatory. In addition, at the beginning of 2022, the “User Security Control Center” will appear in the personal account of VK ID – this is a special page with convenient access to many useful functions. For example, there it will be possible to assess the degree of security of a user account, get personal recommendations on how to improve data protection, connect options that allow you to secure your account from various fraudulent schemes.

And the developers of the VK Protect program spoke about plans to restart the program, which implies payment of funds to security researchers VKontakte and VK ID – the new Bug Bounty program will delight enthusiasts with more impressive rewards.
