Speaking at a plenary meeting of PMEF, Vladimir Putin recalled that the pilot project for digital ruble is being implemented for almost two years.
“All basic operations have been worked out, including the opening and closing of accounts, transfers between individuals and legal entities, payment of goods and services. Now the task is to make the use of a digital ruble with a massive, among citizens and enterprises, banks. I ask the Central Bank and the Government to speed up the necessary procedures and determine the terms for the transition to a new stage in the technological development of our financial sphere, ”the president said.
Work on the creation of a digital ruble was launched by the Bank of Russia in 2021. The key provisions of the law enshrining the introduction of the introduction of Russian state stablecoin entered into force on August 1, 2023.
It was assumed that by July 1, all system credit organizations would provide customers with operations with a digital ruble. However, the Chairman of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina said that the massive introduction of a digital ruble is postponed and will happen later than planned. The regulator explained its decision by the need for improvements to the infrastructure by individual banks participating in the pilot project.
Earlier, the head of the State Duma committee on ownership and a member of the National Financial Council of the Bank of Russia Sergey Gavrilov said that from January 1, 2026, a digital ruble can be used to pay salaries to state employees.
