Vladimir Putin took on his minister and publicly berated him – ‘Why are you kidding?’

The Russian president Vladimir Putin publicly spat with his minister during the government’s first video meeting of the new year, as reported by state media.

Putin asked Deputy Prime Minister and Trade Minister Denis Madurov why he was “fooling around” instead of procuring new planes for the country, in an awkward video released by state-run RIA Novosti.

Madurov took charge of Russia’s defense industry in July. At the time, he was one of Putin’s favorite people, accompanying him on various trips, according to the Associated Press and Business Insider. But with sanctions and the need for military equipment growing because of it war in Ukrainehis role is proving difficult, reports Defense News.

In the video, Putin takes a sarcastic tone, telling him that his work has been delayed “sooo long – too long” and demanding that he speed up.

Madurov is seen looking down as Putin speaks. “Well. When will this be resolved? Not even contracts.”

Putin continued for nearly a minute with 12 others remaining speechless during the video call.

“Why are you fooling around? When will you have the contracts?’ Putin asks, telling his minister he has a month’s notice.
