VMA 2024: Women and Latinos stand out at the music awards

The 40th MTV Awards Night Video Music Awards this Wednesday (11), was dominated by performances by Latin American artists and the awarding of women.

Names like Camila Cabello, Karol G, Tiago PZK and Brazilian Anitta brought Spanish and Portuguese to the event stage. Karol G even performed surrounded by the flags of Latin American countries.

Upon arriving on the red carpet at the event, which takes place at the UBS Arena in New York, Colombian Karol G announced in an interview that the awards ceremony would be a “Latin party”.

Anitta brought Brazilian funk to her performance at the VMAs. The Rio native arrived at the event wearing a wedding dress, which she said was a “spoiler for something to come” — without explaining whether this was a reference to a new project.

Anitta even received the award for Best Latin Music Video at the MTV awards tonight. . The category was announced by the multi-artist Thalia who emphasized that “Latin culture is part of pop culture.”

When it came to receiving the awards, the famous silver astronaut statuettes, women were the ones who took center stage at the awards ceremony. Out of 25 categories announced, at least 16 awards went to them.

Other highlights of the night were the performances by Americans Katy Perry (honored artist of the night), Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, Shawn Mendes, Lenny Kravitz.
