The winner of the 69th edition of Eurovision, Austrian artist JJ, said on Sunday (18) in Vienna that vocal training was like going to the gym, when asked how he could reach such high tones.
JJ, 24 years old and born in Vienna, is an Opera Singer Contractor whose vocal extension is equivalent to that of a female contralto or mezzo-soprano. His winning song, “Wasted Love”, combined elements of opera, techno and acute soprano, conquering the hearts of professional juries and viewers who voted by phone.
JJ spoke at the headquarters of the public orf public broadcaster, organizer of the ESC next year.
“If you haven’t been to the gym for a long time, you can’t lift the same weights as before, and it’s the same with singing. So keep practicing,” said JJ hours after returning home from Basel, Switzerland, which hosted the event.
JJ will be received by Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker at Vienna’s Chancellery on Monday (19).
