Volkswagen is in talks with Chinese Huawei to acquire the Chinese company’s autonomous driving unit in a multibillion-dollar deal, according to Manager Magazin.
According to Reuters, automakers and technology companies are investing billions of dollars in autonomous driving, with the goal of leading a sector they see as the future of transportation.
The CEO of Volkswagen, Herbert Diess, had stated yesterday, Wednesday, that he expects extensive use of autonomous driving within the next 25 years and that his company is seeking new partnerships to strengthen its capabilities in the relevant software.
According to Manager Magazine, citing internal sources, the heads of Volkswagen and Huawei have been negotiating the deal for months, which includes other technology systems.
