Volkswagen launches ID.5 electric coupe-crossover with up to 300 horsepower

German auto giant Volkswagen has already announced plans to phase out combustion-powered vehicles in the next two decades. And now the brand is busy expanding the range of its “electric trains”. On November 3, the range of Volkswagen electric vehicles was replenished with a new model with the laconic name ID.5. It’s a coupe-like crossover with an electric motor inside.

Volkswagen ID.5 can be called the twin brother of the previously released ID.4 crossover, which was given the shape of a coupe. The new electric car retained the same dimensions as the Volkswagen ID.4, but changed the look of the roof, which now has a strong slope, increasing the aerodynamics of the car, albeit only slightly. The drag coefficient of the Volkswagen ID.5 is 0.26 versus 0.28 for the Volkswagen ID.4.

The basic version of the Volkswagen ID.5 has rear-wheel drive and a 171 hp electric motor, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 10.4 seconds. There is a slightly more powerful rear-wheel drive version with a 201 hp engine. and acceleration time to hundreds in 8.4 seconds. In both cases, the maximum speed is 160 km / h. If this does not seem enough, then you can choose the all-wheel drive version of the Volkswagen ID.5 GTX with an engine of 295 horses, acceleration to 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds, a maximum speed of 180 km / h and a power reserve of 480 kilometers. All three models of Volkswagen’s new electric coupe-crossover are powered by a 77 kW battery with fast charging support. Just 30 minutes of charging will allow you to travel up to 390 kilometers (about 320 kilometers for the “charged” GTX version).

The charisma and daring appearance of the new electric crossover is given not only by the sloping roof, but also by wheels with disks up to 21 inches. Inside, the Volkswagen ID.5 looks almost like the Volkswagen ID.4, except that the space for rear passengers has become smaller due to the change in the shape of the roof. Other features of the car include a new software system with wireless updates, satellite navigation with road projection and a parking assist system with memory function.

The Volkswagen ID.5 is slated to go on sale in the spring of 2022. As for the cost, it will be about 2,500 euros more expensive than its brother Volkswagen ID.4, that is, prices start at around 47,500-48,000 euros.
