The French edition of Auto-moto, citing its own sources, has published the first details about the Volkswagen Passat B9, which should become a kind of hybrid of a sedan, station wagon and crossover.
In recent years, family sedans have become noticeably less popular compared to crossovers. Therefore, Volkswagen decided to create a new body that combines “the elegance of a sedan, the practicality of a station wagon and the increased ground clearance of a crossover.”

Volkswagen Passat B9 will increase in size: the length will grow from 4.77 to 4.86 meters, and the trunk volume will increase to 660 liters (without the seats folded). Due to the increased wheelbase, there will be significantly more legroom for the rear passengers.
B9 generation Volkswagen Passat buyers will be offered several engine options, including a 2.0-liter diesel engine, as well as rechargeable hybrids that can travel up to 100 kilometers without recharging.
It is expected that the production of the Volkswagen Passat will be transferred from Germany to the Czech Republic to the production site in Kvasiny, where the full-size Skoda Superb liftback is already being produced. The starting price of the car should be around 36,000 euros.

Last week Volkswagen announced that production of the popular Passat sedan with traditional internal combustion engines in the United States has come to an end.
