Volkswagen says goodbye to Passat, switching to electric vehicles in the US

Volkswagen has announced that production of the popular Passat sedan with a traditional internal combustion engine in the United States has come to an end. The last was the limited edition Volkswagen Passat Limited Edition 2022. In total, 1973 cars will be produced (in 1973 the first model of the series was released).

The Chattanooga, Tennessee plant is in the process of expanding from ICEs to electric vehicles and becoming Volkswagen’s North American electric vehicle assembly center. Local production of the Passat started in 2011.

In 2022, Volkswagen will begin local production of ID.4 electric vehicles, which are currently being imported from Germany. In addition to the Passat, the plant also deals with the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models, so it may well be producing larger electric vehicles such as the ID.6 and / or ID.8.
