The Chattanooga, Tennessee plant is in the process of expanding from ICEs to electric vehicles and becoming Volkswagen’s North American electric vehicle assembly center. Local production of the Passat started in 2011.

After a decade of success among American sedan buyers, Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced the end of assembly of the Passat sedan in Chattanooga as part of a factory transformation to create the electric vehicles of the future. To highlight the Passat’s role in the resurgence of Volkswagen in the United States, a limited edition Volkswagen Passat Limited Edition 2022 has been launched.

In 2022, Volkswagen will begin local production of ID.4 electric vehicles, which are currently being imported from Germany. In addition to the Passat, the plant also deals with the Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport models, so it may well be producing larger electric vehicles such as the ID.6 and / or ID.8.
