He spoke before preliminary results were announced in referendums in Kherson, Zaporizhia and Luhansk, where “yes” to joining Russia won by a wide margin, according to results announced by pro-Russian authorities. Later, the victory of “yes” was also announced by the Donetsk authorities.
In his intervention at the UN, the Ukrainian president denounced the referendums, according to him a “farce” with results determined “in advance”.
He called Russia’s “annexation of territories” of Ukraine “the most barbaric violation of the United Nations Charter”. From Mr. Zelensky’s point of view, Russia should be “prosecuted by all international organizations” because of its actionsor at least suspend its participation in them.
“Threats of using nuclear weapons have become a constant of Russian officials and propagandists”he further complained, as the Kremlin reminded yesterday Tuesday that Russian military doctrine foresees the use of such weapons in the event of an attack on Russian territory.
Later, in his speech broadcast from his social media accounts, Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized: “None of Russia’s actions change the course of Ukraine. We will endeavor to protect our people in all occupied territories. As for what is happening on the front, I will not give many details other than that we are advancing and liberating territories”.
