Volodymyr Zelensky: “Betting” on the World Bank to rebuild his country

Its president Ukrainian, Volodymyr Zelenskystated that he relies on her support World Bank in terms of the business of rebuilding his country after the Russian invasion.

He said he met with representatives of the international financial institution, with whom he discussed ways to financially support this demanding undertaking.

“Naturally, we focused on reconstruction – and what needs to be done in the many Ukrainian towns and villages that have suffered from the occupiers’ terrorist attacks”Zelensky said in a video message late Friday night (3/24).

The World Bank estimates that the damage caused to Ukraine’s buildings and infrastructure in the first year of the Russian invasion is estimated at about $135 billion. The total cost of Ukraine’s reconstruction and economic recovery from this war is estimated to exceed $410 billion over the next decade.

The debris removal operation alone is estimated to cost more than $5 billion.

“We thank all our partners who understand what needs to be done and how we can properly synchronize our pace,” Zelenskiy emphasized. In the meantime, as it became known from the Ministry of Environment of Ukraine, in the country there are more than five million people who do not have access to clean water.

As for now, what is happening at the front, Zelensky claimed that after consultation with his generals it was decided to strengthen the Ukrainian positions in the city of Bakhmut and not to abandon the city, which is considered “key” to the defense of Donbas. At the same time, he announced that many important changes are underway in the country’s secret intelligence service in order to increase Ukraine’s security level and “to fight our enemies at home”, meaning agents working on behalf of Russia.
