Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today called on the world to “prevent evil from prevailing” in an official statement on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp. “The memory of the Holocaust is gradually weakening. And the evil that seeks to destroy the lives of entire peoples still exists in the world,” said Volodymyr Zelensky, who is of Jewish origin, referring to Russia and the war it has waged against Ukraine for nearly three years. “We must not allow oblivion. It is everyone’s mission to do everything possible to prevent evil from prevailing,” said the president of Ukraine, who yesterday participated in a memorial event for the victims of the Holocaust in Babi Yar, site of one of the largest massacres of World War II, where more than 33,000 Jews were executed in two days.
