Operator MegaFon announced the launch of VoLTE (Voice over LTE) technology on a federal scale. As the press service notes, MegaFon was the first to do this among other Russian operators.
VoLTE technology, first launched in the world in 2014, made it possible to transmit high quality voice over the LTE network. VoLTE appeared in Russia in 2016, when MegaFon launched it in Moscow. In recent years, the service has become available to residents of other regions of the country. The technology became federal after its introduction in the Chuvash Republic, Kursk and Volgograd regions, during the spring and summer of 2021.
At the moment VoLTE is used by more than 13 million subscribers of the operator. In addition to Moscow and the region, the use of the new technology is actively growing in the Krasnodar Territory, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, the Nizhny Novgorod Region and St. Petersburg. You can use VoLTE voice communication on most modern smartphones.
VoLTE connection is possible with subscribers of any operators. The quality of voice communication will be better if the interlocutor also uses this technology. Connection establishment time is only 2 seconds. Depending on the smartphone model, the service is available automatically or after updating the cellular settings.
