Volunteers and organizations gather donations for the victims of the rains in the city of Petrópolis, in the mountainous region of Rio de Janeiro. The solidarity network, which was formed shortly after the tragedy, is collecting clothes, shoes, water, bedding, non-perishable food and cleaning and personal hygiene items. Any kind of donation is welcome.
Shopping malls in Rio de Janeiro made their spaces available to serve as collection points. Hundreds of people are heading to a collection terminal to drop off a donation.
In all, there are 16 establishments: Bangu Shopping (Bangu), Carioca Shopping (Vicente de Carvalho), Caxias Shopping (Duque de Caxias), Passeio Shopping (Campo Grande), Pátio Alcântara (Alcântara), Santa Cruz Shopping (Santa Cruz), Shopping Grande Rio (São João de Meriti), Botafogo Praia Shopping, Rio Sul (Botafogo), Shopping Leblon (Leblon), São Gonçalo Shopping (São Gonçalo), Via Parque Shopping (Barra da Tijuca), Recreio Shopping (Recreio), Shopping Tijuca (Tijuca), Norte Shopping and Plaza Shopping.
The Rio clubs Flamengo, Fluminense, Vasco and Botafogo also showed solidarity and made available some places to receive supplies.
This Saturday (18), the NGO Ação da Cidadania will send around 15 tons of food. Until Monday (21), the forecast is that the NGO has delivered, in the city of Petrópolis, a total of 150 tons of water and food.
Hygiene items, cleaning products, mattresses and blankets will also be taken. According to the organization, this collection was acquired with donations made by companies and individuals on the site. The objective of alleviating the suffering of people who have become homeless or homeless.
The Sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer and the Parish of São José da Lagoa have already accounted for more than 11 tons of food, 32,800.2 liters of water and 3,415 hygiene products. Donations have already been distributed to victims.
Animals that have lost their owners are also getting help. The Patas e Pelos Veterinary Clinic, on Quissamã Street, in Petrópolis, is receiving donations for pets. The biggest need is food.
To collaborate, the city hall of the imperial city also launched the campaign “Petrópolis Solidária” on social networks.
