At the end of the first half of 2021, Volvo set a new record for the sales of its cars. In the first six months of this year, the Swedish brand recorded the highest sales.
Volvo sold 380,757 vehicles from January to June this year, up 41% over the same period last year. More importantly, the company broke its 2019 record with 340,826 sales of Volvo-branded cars in the first six months.
Electric and hybrid models accounted for 24.6% of the total Volvo cars sold in the first half of the year. Their sales are up nearly 150% year over year.
Volvo’s best-selling model is the XC40 compact urban crossover. Its sales in the first six months of 2021 exceeded 118 thousand copies. It is followed by the Volvo XC60 and XC90 with sales of 113,500 and 54,177 units.
It is noted that Volvo sales have grown in all three key markets – Europe, China and the United States. In the European market, the Swedish brand sold 166,822 vehicles, up 35.4% from a year ago.
