Volvo brings AI-powered LEGO loader to life

Volvo, or rather a division of the Swedish automaker Volvo Construction Equipment, presented the LX03 loader, created on the basis of the ZEUX toy model from the LEGO Technic series. The company notes that this is the first ever case of creating a real car, based on the LEGO constructor. In addition, the LX03 is the first real-world example of a self-learning forklift that can independently make decisions, complete tasks and interact with people.

The loader is built on a scissor-type frame, and its design uses units from the serial L25 Electric model. On the one hand, it has a bucket fixed, and on the other, a battery pack, which also acts as a counterweight.

The LX03 lowers the rear to lift the load, but it must be balanced at all times. The machine is driven by two electric motors and controlled by artificial intelligence. The battery lasts for 8 hours of operation.

The LX03 can lift up to five tons and its bucket capacity is 1.5 cubic meters. Thus, the loader can be used on land plots or in mineral deposits. At the moment, the LX03 is a prototype, so it is unlikely to go into production. Nevertheless, Volvo engineers hope that some of the ideas and solutions of the LX03 will be used in future cars.
