Volvo’s XC90 electric successor to become Swedish brand’s safest car

The Swedish auto giant Volvo is preparing to release its new car. It will be an electric crossover Volvo EX90, which will replace the current Volvo XC90 and will be, according to the manufacturer, the safest Volvo car.

The official premiere of the Volvo EX90 is scheduled for November 9th. The model will be built on an electric platform and will receive an autopilot system of the third level of autonomy and a whole set of sensors, including LiDAR Luminar with a range of 250 meters, eight cameras, five radars and 16 ultrasonic sensors. Only thanks to the LiDAR sensor, it will be possible to reduce the number of serious accidents with victims and deaths by 20%, and in general, the probability of any accident, even the smallest one, will be reduced by 9%. The system will be constantly updated based on the collected data, thereby improving the safety of the crossover.

With the help of smart systems, the car will be able to detect a person and various obstacles on the road, even on an unlit road, and will monitor the driver’s fatigue and condition by controlling his gaze. If the system suddenly notices that the driver is falling asleep or is distracted from the road, then the car will first turn on warning signals, and if the person does not respond to them, the car will stop on the side of the road and turn on the alarm. If necessary, the car will even be able to contact emergency services.

By the way, thanks to the third level autopilot, the Volvo EX90 driver will be able to take his eyes off the road while driving and take his hands off the steering wheel. True, while driving in this mode is allowed only on a few tracks.

Speaking about the safety systems implemented in the Volvo EX90, the newly minted head of the company, Jim Rowan (Jim Rowan), said that Volvo’s plan is to continue to introduce innovative technologies until cars stop crashing.

What specifications the Volvo EX90 will have, when it goes on sale and at what price remains to be seen.
