Significantly more vaccine deliveries and speeding up the vaccination process are expected in the European Union in April, says European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
In an interview with the Stuttgarter Zeitung and Stuttgarter Nachrichten, Ms von der Layen points out that in the second quarter of the year she expects to deliver about 100 million doses of vaccine each month, “according to the manufacturers’ plans”, but also because “additional vaccines are just before licensing ”. This, he explains, will result in a huge increase in the amount of vaccines already available. According to the President of the Commission, about 20 million installments were delivered in January and 30 million in February, while a total of 50 million is expected for March.
In the same interview, Ursula von der Leyen admits that mistakes were made on the part of Europe, but stressed that it was the right choice for Europeans to order the vaccines together.
Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Olaf Soltz told ZDF that up to 10 million vaccinations a week could be carried out in Germany from the end of March for the next three months.
