Lower energy prices and secure supplies are the goal, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said a day after the meeting of relevant EU ministers in Brussels. Specifically, he noted:
“Preparing with the commissioners our energy package to tackle soaring prices and provide relief to Europeans:
We welcomed the Council’s overall support for our basic approach.
We discussed the issue of gas costs.
We evaluated the works related to state aid, equal conditions of competition, support of small and medium enterprises”. The President of the Commission added that the work ahead of the meeting of the House of Commissioners in Strasbourg can be summarized as follows:
Smart demand reduction
Energy sector contributions to support vulnerable households and businesses
Liquidity support of utilities
Accelerating the rollout of REPowerEU.
“Regarding the cost of natural gas, we continue to work on answers adapted to a global market.
The goal: securing lower prices in Europe while ensuring security of supply” concluded Ms. von der Leyen.
