VR headset adoption accelerated in 2020 and 2021, according to Counterpoint, thanks in part to the success of the Oculus Quest 2 in the consumer segment and the DPVR and Pico models in the corporate segment. Analysts believe headset sales will start to grow significantly in 2022, as it will be the busiest year in terms of new models. The release of new representatives of the Oculus Quest series, the Sony PlayStation VR2 headset and the most anticipated new product – Apple AR is expected. Counterpoint experts pin their hopes on the latter, given Apple’s rich experience in increasing sales when entering new product categories.

“Standalone VR headsets have become the device of choice in the gaming segment, thanks in part to the success of the Oculus Quest 2. The wireless form factor is the future of headsets. Manufacturers and consumers prefer devices of this type to devices with a wired connection, so the part-time of the latter is growing relatively slowly, – senior analyst Karn Chauhan commented on the dynamics of the market. – Augmented reality has been a small segment since 2016, mainly serving the corporate segment with high-spec, high-price models. This is unlikely to change in the near future. “
