Vulnerability in Polygon network allowed fraudster to steal $ 2 million of MATIC tokens

The hacker stole over 800 thousand MATICs worth more than $ 2 million, using a vulnerability in the Polygon network. Representatives of the project spoke about the incident. They noted that the problem has already been resolved, the rest of the cryptocurrency is safe, writes RBC Crypto.

The critical vulnerability was first discovered by two white hackers on December 3 and 4. She exposed over 9.27 billion MATIC tokens worth $ 23.6 billion at the current exchange rate. This is the vast majority of tokens, since their issue is 10 billion. The error was eliminated on December 5th.

The vulnerability has been patched without public notification for security reasons. The developers are reporting critical network bug fixes after 4-8 weeks to avoid the risk of a malfunction being exploited by attackers. White hackers who are the first to discover the vulnerability will receive rewards of $ 2.2 million and $ 1.27 million in cryptocurrency.
