Two top-ranking members of the new government committed themselves today to saying the right things in the right places.
The Minister of Finance went to the prestigious World Economic Forum, in Davos, Switzerland, to say that we will soon have a tax reform that will simplify taxes and facilitate business, therefore attracting investment.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce went to the headquarters of the Federation of Industries of São Paulo, Fiesp, to say that he is also committed to the rapid approval of a tax reform. As a way to help promote reindustrialisation.
The words were obviously well received by the target audience, which are precisely the market agents so criticized in other types of pronouncements by authorities of the new government, starting with the president himself.
The main issue, however, is not one of choice of words, but of seeing events happening. Without exception, all the last Brazilian governments, no matter the political tendency, spoke of approving, at the very least, a simplification of taxes.
The credibility of this government will depend on facts, not statements.
