On the CNN Poder board this Tuesday (14), on CNN Radio, William Waack analyzed the decisions of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil.
For Waack, despite being criticized in some recent moments, the STF took important decisions that helped Brazil throughout the pandemic.
“We always hear severe complaints about the STF. It turns out that in the last ones [decisões] that he took, and that has to do with the vaccine, if it weren’t for the Supreme Court, we would be in a worse situation.”
“The Supreme Court prevented the suspension of the vaccination of teenagers, an absurd decision, because the President of the Republic ‘had heard about it’. It was the Supreme that guaranteed what already existed to governors and mayors, that each one would decide what they thought was most important to do, as an entity of the federation in their jurisdiction”, he explained.
“The Supreme Court now has an important role in the case of the vaccination passport. Because Brazil was going to become a paradise for the unvaccinated”, added Waack.
Finally, Waack criticized some measures taken by the Executive in the course of the pandemic.
“In the specific case of the vaccine, in the specific case of the pandemic, the Supreme Court ends up taking decisions to correct what the Executive has completely lost because of pleasing the President of the Republic”, he said.
“The fundamental question is another: why does the Executive ignore the state bodies, full of well-informed technicians, who can give categorical and rational opinions on matters, and get stuck in ideology? Then when the STF enters, nobody needs to be surprised.”
