The STF maintained the impeachment of a Bolsonar deputy who spread fake news about the polls in the 2018 election, in which this deputy, not to mention President Jair Bolsonaro himself, had a significant vote.
Even by the standards of verbal violence against the Supreme, Bolsonaro reacted even harder to the decision to maintain the impeachment of the bolsonarista deputy. He suggested some sort of unspecified breakup.
The legal world found it very difficult to maintain the piece with which Kassio Nunes Marques, the minister appointed by Bolsonaro to the STF, suspended the deputy’s impeachment.
That is, it was taken for granted that Kassio Nunes would be defeated by his peers – which was confirmed.
Bolsonaro’s apparent anger at the result – expected, it is reiterated – makes it legitimate to ask whether the president was misinformed about the balance of forces within the Supreme Court.
If you believed in victory when you knew you would lose, or if that was what you wanted: to lose in the Supreme Court and win in the electoral speech.
