In the northern region of Ukraine, near Kharkiv, the country’s second largest city, a series of artillery counterattacks by Ukrainian forces have been carried out, which have turned into offensives to expel Russian forces, which are blocking access to the city, also through artillery.
Artillery is the main element used so far by Ukrainians and Russians. Both are focusing on the duel with this category of weapon that is capable of executing accurate shots, on average, over 30 kilometers away.
However, it is not just the equipment itself that generates such precision, seen in videos that circulate in the press and on the internet. Armies use drones as allies, resulting in a powerful combination in the military field.
With the ability to provide an aerial view of the battlefield, drones offer a sort of ‘fix’ for artillery gun fire.
The Russians have a great military tradition, Russian doctrine itself already emphasizes artillery. And it is precisely this type of equipment that the Ukrainians are trying to push away from the borders, generating the so-called “artillery duel”.
This duel is being decisive for the conflict unfolding in the region and the Ukrainians have been successful in the last 48 hours of conflict.
