A perfect proverb for what happens between Brazil and Venezuela comes from the vast Spanish culture: “Cria cuervos que sacarán los ojos”, says the proverb.
In literal translation, raise crows and they will tear out your eyes. The proverb describes the ingratitude of those who pay with evil for the good done to them.
More than a decade ago, Lula and his party helped create a crow called Chavismo, which transformed Venezuela into a brutal dictatorship, defended and tolerated by Lula and his party even after scandalous electoral fraud.
Also denounced by center-left politicians and governments committed to universal democratic principles and not to the ideological cronyism of “compañeros”.
Because Venezuela today attacks Brazil, and its State institutions, such as Itamaraty. And the President of the Republic himself, ridiculed by the Venezuelan regime as Lula’s main international advisor.
It is unacceptable for a neighboring country, no matter which one, to behave in this way towards symbols of our country. But the Brazilian government and its main party have remained obligingly silent.
This suggests that the active and haughty Brazilian diplomacy of “Lula 3” proved to be the opposite of this, passive, as it tolerates behavior of this type. And submissive, as it is subject to ideological criteria that clearly do not serve the country’s interests.
Perhaps those who formulate current Brazilian foreign policy lack eyes, eyes plucked out by the crow they helped create.
