Waack: Scenario is too dangerous for Biden

A president who narrowly won, but with high hopes, will pass this Tuesday (8) a difficult test. The president is the American Joe Biden, and the test is the midterm elections.

Biden, of the Democratic party, is in danger of losing control of the two legislative houses in Washington, the House and the Senate. Biden’s approval is now lower than that of former President Donald Trump and also lower than that of Barack Obama in 2010.

The current president is seen by a large part of the electorate as being blamed for an inflation that has not been so high in the last 40 years, because of social aid packages and the fight against climate change and for events such as the war in Ukraine.

Democrats have only five seats in the House, and in the Senate the tie-breaking vote. What will determine who remains in control of the House and Senate are extraordinarily contested elections in several states. The scenario is very dangerous for Biden.

Republicans have doubled down on candidates who bet on Trump — on the man, the style, the culture war, the aggression.

Not only is control of Congress at stake, but the presidential campaign itself two years from now.
