The President of China, Xi Jinping, arrived, this Tuesday (13), in San Francisco, in the United States.
It is the first time that the Chinese strongman has visited American territory in the last six years. In 2017, Xi Jinping met in Florida with then-president Donald Trump.
Since then, the world has changed a lot, and the international order established and defended by the United States remains in the past, challenged mainly by China.
Relations between the two biggest powers on the planet have never been so bad, worsening considerably due to two recent events: the wars in Ukraine and Gaza.
Two major disputes that have become more serious in recent years are the technological siege mounted by the United States against China and China’s aggressive stance towards Taiwan.
Without a doubt, Xi Jinping and Joe Biden have a lot to deal with. The question is whether they can resolve anything.
There are signs that China and the United States have established a series of financial and military dialogues in recent weeks, as well as diplomatic channels in the face of the war in Gaza. Apparently, it is not in the interest of either of the two largest powers for the conflict to spread uncontrollably.
This was also what was said when Xi Jinping and Biden last met in person, almost a year ago. There was talk of a “ground” to prevent things from deteriorating between Beijing and Washington. What happened was the opposite.
