Waack: With Sweden in NATO, war gets closer to Brazil

The war in Ukraine got a little closer to Brazil this Monday (10).

Turkey, which is a member of NATO, the Western military pact, has finally agreed to Sweden’s entry into the pact.

Sweden was neutral, but after Russia invaded Ukraine, it decided to join the western military pact. It was neutral when Brazil decided to buy Gripen fighters from it to modernize the Brazilian Air Force.

It was not a simple purchase, but a long-term association for the transfer of technology, assembly of the planes here and possible sales.

A neutral country like Sweden stipulates its own conditions for transferring war technology and war products. It is different when a country is part of a military alliance that is very careful about who will end up operating its most modern weapons.

If it was already difficult for the Lula government (PT) to find the right words to talk about the war in Ukraine, it became even more delicate.
