Online prices for merchandise bearing its emblem Wagner – a human skull on a black and red background – have increased since the mutiny of this paramilitary organization. Wildberries’ weekly e-commerce price breakdowns showed just how much costs have risen. A badge depicting the skull, which can be sewn into clothing, fetched 525 rubles ($6) in the June 25-29 period, up from 294 rubles on June 18-25.
“Due to the situation in the country, the purchases were spontaneous“, wrote Tatiana, who bought one of the merchandise with the organization’s emblem.
Prices for a black T-shirt with a picture of a Wagner fighter holding a violin soared this week to 1,650 rubles from 1,236 rubles.
In a buyer review for a Wagner flag at Wildberries, one buyer, Vladimir, writes as reported by the Athens News Agency: “Private military company Wagner is the best. Good luck to you. The flag is excellent.”
Wagner fighters – who have spearheaded some of Russia’s military operations in Ukraine – were cheered by residents in Rostov on Saturday when they took control of the southern Russian city.
People also bought other tokens, such as keychain.
“Very beautiful and original keychain,” one buyer wrote giving a five-star rating. “In memory of all those who died in Wagner’s ranks.”
Wildberries and Ozon declined to comment on the commodity price hike.
Elsewhere, face masks of the organization’s leader, Yevgeny Prigozhinwas being sold in St. Petersburg, along with those of Putin, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and jailed opposition politician Alexei Navalny.
