Wall: Futures in ‘red’ after Moderna forecasts for vaccines against Omicron – 400 points below Dow

The positive reaction of Wall in Monday’s meeting, after the slump brought to the American market by the location of the new mutated strain Omicron, does not seem to continue, as the futures on the New York Stock Exchange fall after Moderna CEO Stefan Bancel predicts that existing vaccines will be much less effective in dealing with the new mutation.

In particular, St. Banchel warned that it would take months for pharmaceutical companies to develop new vaccines for specific scale variants.

He also noted that the high number of Omicron mutations in the spike protein used by the virus to infect human cells, as well as the rapid spread of the mutation in South Africa, suggest that current vaccine production may need to be modified next year.

“I do not think there is an area where the vaccine is as effective as Delta,” Bansell told the Financial Times. “We have to wait for the data. the view that “this is not going to be good”.

The comments from Moderna’s CEO came at a time when other public health experts and politicians alike are trying to give a more optimistic tone about the ability of existing vaccines to provide protection against Omicron. Scott Gottlieb, director of Pfizer and former US Food and Drug Administration commissioner, told CNBC: “There is a reasonable degree of confidence in vaccine cycles that with at least three doses the patient will have fairly good protection against this variant.”
