Wall nails: here’s the technique for a perfect French

Wall nails, or French wall nails, also called interlocking French, is a nail reconstruction technique with which the nail artist does not limit herself to drawing the smile line nails with white gel, or another color, over the already reconstructed nail (where the reconstruction can be in gel, acrygel, or acrylic), but create the smile line directly in the structure.

In the classic French, the white smile line is a drawing, a nail art exercise, while in the wall, the different parts of the nail are created directly while the nail plate is being reconstructed.

Wall nails: a French that is part of the reconstruction, and not a design

In this sense, the professional creates two walls that fit together; the first is the reconstruction that covers the nail bed – to be clear, the nude part in the classic French manicure – while the other is the wall of the smile line – the white line.

Once the two parts (but there can be more than two walls, as we will see) are polymerized on the nail, the expert will file off the excess product, revealing the perfect geometries of the wallswhich will create a beautiful and very natural two-tone nail.

But without getting lost in technicalities, here’s how it’s done:

The technique is certainly not one of the easiest, but it allows absolute definition and perfectionand can be declined in infinite combinations of colors, patterns and shapes.

A manicure suitable for nails of any length

Furthermore, the wall technique is also suitable for short nails, precisely because the walls, therefore the proportions of the nail body and smile line, are artificial. The result, however, is very natural.

From the classic pink-white French wall, to the square, oval or glittery wall, to the mosaic wall, there is something for all tastes, from the most peaceful to the craziest.

Below you will find many ideas for your next favorite manicure.

The advantages of wall nails

In addition to being a technique that allows you to have French nails with maximum precision, and an extra white bezel, it is also suitable for customizing them with the under-glass effect, or with incursions into the gel or acrygel texture, used for reconstruction, which can be glimpsed in transparency: you can encapsulate glitter, crystals, mother-of-pearl flakes, mirrors and more, obtaining a very particular effect in depth and three-dimensionality. There is no limit to the imagination and there is plenty of room for customization.

Glitter version of wall nails

As mentioned, this technique allows for the most varied French looks: here is a glittery smile line that will surely claim victims.

Wall for short nails? It is possible. It is beautiful

The beauty of this technique is that it is suitable for very short or very long nails. In this case the gel does not go beyond the length of the nail underneath.

Mosaic wall nails

The wall technique lends itself to super creative variations. But arm yourself with patience, it is certainly not an express manicure…

The fake wall

If going to the salon to get your nails done this month is out of the question, but you really like the look of the French wall, don’t despair: you can recreate a very similar effect at home, with the fake wall, which is only drawn. Only for those with a very steady hand.

Inverted wall

If the smile line is moved to the beginning of the nail, the result can be interesting…

A dramatic manicure that doesn’t go unnoticed, and certainly not very practical.

French wall…with a touch of neon

If you are traditionalist, but not too much, you can opt for a classic French, but not too much, in which the pink part and the white part are divided by a fluorescent line (or another contrasting color).
